About the Event

Save the date! Monday 5th of April 20:00 Gendered spaces

Dear Urban Studies Students,

We are delighted to invite you to the second discussion on Feminist cities and gendered spaces on Monday the 5th of April at 20:00 (Dutch time) on Teams (you will be added to the team after RSVP'ing for the event, press the button down below)! This time we will discuss on the basis of the following article:

"Revisiting Fear and Place: Women's Fear of Attack and the Built Environment." *

On the basis of this article we would like to discuss our personal experience with fear and being feared in urban spaces, and explore different tools to contest fear as urbanists.

Again, we hope for this event to be relatively relaxed, where everyone can contribute, no matter your previous knowledge or experience. However, we ask you to have a look at the text before joining so we have a common basis for the discussion.

Hope to see you soon!

Your critical urbanists

* Koskela, Hille, and Pain, Rachel. "Revisiting Fear and Place: Women's Fear of Attack and the Built Environment." Geoforum 31, no. 2 (2000): 269-80. ( https://catalogue.leidenuniv.nl/permalink/f/1e3kn0k/TN_cdi_crossref_primary_10_1016_S0016_7185_99_00033_0)

"We will discuss the following parts so you don't have to read the whole article. This will be the introduction (page 269-271), part 4: "the constitution of fear as a social reality" and conclusion  (pages 277-279).

P.S. if you encounter any problems accesing the article, don’t hesitate to send an email to criticalurbanists.astus@gmail.com and we will find a solution for that!
